Chrysanthemum By Kevin Henkes
Chrysanthemum loved the name her parents had given her. Her parents thought it was a perfect name for her. Chrysanthemum loved how it sounded when her parents called her. But her name did not sound so perfect once she started school! Children teased her for being named after a flower. They laughed at the length of her name. Chrysanthemum’s happy world began to fall apart. She began to feel wilted and embarrassed about her name. Then the class was introduced to their music teacher Mrs. Delphinium Twinkle and Chrysanthemum began to blossom! A wonderful book to develop compassion and empathy among young children. Great read for beginning of beginning of the school year!
